Johnny Football, Eh?
Johnny Manziel’s Canadian Debut
Johnny Manziel’s peak was back in his college days, and honestly, I kind of forgot about him. That was, until recently, when the young burn out recently announced that he would be making his return to football in the world’s biggest football country- Canada.
Manziel was once the face of college football- a Heisman Trophy winner and first all-around pick in the 2014 draft. After his college career, Manziel had a rough time in the NFL. His quick fame showed him that he lacked the maturity needed to be successful; his constant partying and accusations of domestic abuse towards his ex-girlfriend shortened his career in the NFL.
“When I first got in the league, did I have some leeway? Sure I did, but I have exhausted all leeway and all second chances,” Manziel said in an interview with CBS Sports. “This isn’t the second chance. This is the 35th chance. This is the last of the last chances to show people that I’ve made a drastic change in my life, and it’s for the better and I’m happy with where I’m at. … [But] until I get into [an NFL] building and I’m able to show that, it’s all just talk. It’s all just me saying that I’m different. Now, I know I am.”
After the Spring League, Manziel showed promise for a potential comeback for football, and shortly after the league, Manziel signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the Canadian Football League. However, a starting position on the team is not guaranteed for Manziel. Manziel would have to compete with Jeremiah Masoli for the starting position on the team.
