The results from the biggest night in movies
Sunday night was the 90th annual Academy Awards, the most prestigious awards show in the film industry. Jimmy Kimmel hosted the event at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Here are the winners of the different awards this year.
- Best picture- “The Shape of Water”- This film, directed by Guillermo Del Toro, is about a janitor working at a classified government laboratory during the Cold War who discovers the truth about the lab’s most top-secret project.
- Lead actor- Gary Oldman in “Darkest Hour”- Oldman plays former British prime minister Winston Churchill in this film about Churchill during the early days of World War II.
- Lead actress- Frances McDormand in “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”- McDormand plays Mildred, a grieving mother trying to motivate the police investigating the murder of her daughter.
- Supporting actor- Sam Rockwell in “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”- Rockwell plays a racist deputy whose unprofessional behavior threatens his position on the force.
- Supporting actress- Alison Janney in “I, Tonya”- Janney plays LaVona, an abusive mother who pushes her daughter, Tonya Harding, to become a world-class figure skater while destroying Tonya’s self-esteem.

- Directing- “The Shape of Water”
