Person of the Week: George Tighe

It’s no secret that this school is full of high achievers, and this Person of the Week embodies that by being involved in numerous school organizations and being one of six individuals from this school selected as a National Merit Scholar Semifinalist. Meet senior George Tighe.

Many people strive to achieve the status of Semifinalist through the NMSQT, and Tighe explains how he initially prepared for the test.

“For the PSAT, I did the Scholars program over the summer with Mrs. Rivard and Mr. Wong and a few other teachers,” Tighe said. “That was the bulk of my preparation. From there, I think most of my classes prepared me pretty well.”

Tighe had a confident mindset in regard to his chances of being selected as a Semifinalist after receiving his scores, which he regarded as the most exciting part of the whole process.“I had guessed that I was going to be a

“I had guessed that I was going to be a Semifinalist because I got a 1500 out of 1520, which was five points above the National Merit cutoff last year,” Tighe said. “So, I was fairly confident I was going to make Semifinalist. I was really excited when I got my score, but when they announced [the Semifinalists], it wasn’t a big deal.”

Tighe is involved with much more than just academics. He has been on the water polo team ever since sophomore year. He is the current Vice President of Interact Club and is a member of the National Honor Society. Looking to the future, his dream school is none other than MIT.

“MIT… that’s the dream.” Tighe said. “Fingers have been crossed for like three years.”After MIT, Tighe plans to take off in the field of aerospace engineering.

After MIT, Tighe plans to take off in the field of aerospace engineering.

“It would be cool to work for a start-up because I like that kind of environment,” Tighe said. “But it would also be cool to say ‘oh yeah, I work for Boeing’, or something like that.”

It wouldn’t be inaccurate to say that Tighe is destined for great things. Between all of this, it would be hard to say otherwise. This was: George Tighe.
