A place where senior dogs thrive

More commonly known on social media websites, such as Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram and Facebook, the Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary (OFSDS) is a non-profit organization centered in Mount Juliet, Tennessee. For specific location and contact information, click here.

As the name implies, this is a place where senior dogs reside at. The dogs OFSDS currently takes care of are listed here. On their various social media platforms, they post frequent updates on what each of the dogs are doing at that moment, attracting many people from across the country. They even have a recipe list for different treats they feed their dogs.

The organization exists purely for the purpose of fostering senior dogs with medical issues or simply saving them from euthanasia. Their mission goal is simple: provide the necessities for senior dogs. In many instances, senior dogs are not adopted due to short life expectancy or extremely high veterinary costs. Older dogs have more bodily problems and grow less mobile, hence why they tend to not be adopted as much their younger counterparts. In order to challenge this discrepancy, OFSDS offers adoptions of their senior dogs at no charge. Given by the fact that they are a non-profit organization, they rely on donations, profit from their online store and volunteer work from the local community. Another option of support is purchasing a “Memorial Brick,” which would contain various pieces of information, and would be placed inside the sanctuary.

If you’re ever visiting Mount Juliet, Tennessee, OFSDS offers tours of their sanctuary; however, they do cost $10 and must be reserved ahead of time. They also offer seminars and workshops on how to take care of senior dogs.

Whether it be sharing among friends, or sharing on social media, the spread of knowledge about this organization would provide support for this non-profit organization with one goal in mind: help senior dogs.
