Beware of Ticks
Ticks can kill
Everyone loves to adventure and explore outside, but people need to be cautious when out with new bugs. Ticks are similar to mosquitoes because both insects are difficult to tell which ones are carrying a virus. Ticks are now coming up with a new virus known as the “Powassan virus” which can cause fever, vomiting, seizures, and memory loss. Symptoms show up about a week to a month after the tick bite, therefore it can be difficult for the person to know when they received the bite. Although there have been less than 100 cases documented, more people have been reporting they have symptoms. The ticks who are carrying the Powassan virus have been found near the Northeast and Great Lakes region. Doctors have recommended to wear bug spray specifically for wooded areas when going outside or around trees to prevent ticks.
