Person Of The Week: Meggie Cheng
student hits a perfect score on the act
April 29, 2017
In early February, the ACT (American College Testing) took place at Cypress Woods high school. The test is very challenging because its purpose is to show college readiness, junior Meggie Cheng exemplified expectations and scored a perfect score of a 36.
“I was surprised, I didn’t think I would actually get it to 36,” Cheng said. “I thought it was kind of easy and it went really smoothly for me because I didn’t really have anything that I didn’t know.
The ACT consisted of four multiple-choice test sections along with an optional writing test, which was mandatory for Cheng to complete in a limited time.
“I finished in a reasonable time and was able to check my work on some portions of the test,” Cheng said. “Usually the reading is hard but surprisingly I felt like it was easy”.
Cheng has enrolled in four AP (Advanced Placement) classes while still managing to continue her extracurricular activities and achieve outstanding test results.
“I really don’t have a life outside of school but honestly I think I’m just good at time managing, nobody’s perfect but I’m managing and I like my extracurricular classes because I’m very passionate about them,” Cheng said.
ACT testing and preparation can be a very hard and a nerve-wracking situation to take on especially if you are a person who gets anxiety from it. For Cheng, testing isn’t much of an obstacle, although she does admit school work isn’t her favorite.
“I try to get it done as fast as possible so I don’t have to worry about it later,” Cheng said. “For people who do have anxiety, it will probably calm you if you review what the test does look like as well as the content”.
For Cheng she does not necessarily know the college she wants to attend but hopes to pursue a career path in computer science and continue to expand her knowledge and expertise.
“I don’t have a college, in particular, it’ll just depend on what I’ll eventually decide, I have a bunch I’m thinking about,” Cheng said.
Overall Cheng is a well-rounded student who is just like any other student trying to achieve some sort of goal.
“For test takers don’t study the night before you should do it way before, also focus on the content and format of the test,” Cheng said.
