Paris Terror Attack
Attack on policemen in Paris
April 20th, 2017, 9 PM–One policeman is dead and two are seriously injured after a shooter opened fire on Champs-Élysées–an attack for which ISIS has already claimed responsibility for the attack. The gunman, Karim Cheurfi was shot immediately following the shooting.
The attack occurred three days before a presidential election and has caused voting to be suspended. Paris police spokeswoman Johanna Primevert reported that the gunman appeared to act alone and deliberately targeted police near the subway station. Later, police issued an arrest warrant for another suspect who arrived by train from Belgium. Security was heightened in France on Tuesday following the threat of another terror attack when police arrested two men suspected of plotting an attack.
French President Francois Hollande commented on the attack on Twitter saying: “My thoughts go to the family of the killed policeman and the relatives of the wounded.”
