Thor: Ragnarok

The trailer for the Thor: Ragnarok movie was uploaded on April 11th and within 24 hours reached 15.5 million views on YouTube. Already, excitement for Ragnarok has spread across the internet since the trailer presents an exciting and action-packed movie with a Guardians-of-the-Galaxy feel from its classic rock soundtrack and colorful set design.

From the trailer, it appears that Thor has met his match with the introduction of Hela, Loki’s daughter, who catches and crushes Thor’s Mjölnir. In the Marvel movie universe, Hela will be the first villain deemed “worthy” enough to hold the Mjölnir. The trailer also presents a destroyed Asgard dictated by Loki and Hela’s rule and introduces a team of new characters while also raising several questions including:

“What happened to the Hulk? Why is he there?”
“Who is Hela? What is she doing? And how did she break the Mjölnir?”
“Who are the people who captured Thor? What do they want from him? And why are they making him fight the Hulk?”
“How does this movie tie into the whole Marvel cinematic universe?”

Based off the trailer, Hela is pictured as the main antagonist for Ragnarok, but what about Loki? It would seem that he would be working alongside his daughter, but the trailer only shows Loki briefly–once spinning two knives and the other time sitting very distantly on a white couch watching the Thor/Hulk tournament. In this scene, he appears very focused (possibly somewhat tense). The audience already knows from the Avenger movies that Loki is aware of Thor’s friendship with the Hulk, so it’s not surprising that Loki has no reaction but it is interesting. What is Loki expecting from the tournament? Some fan theories speculate that Loki is betting on Thor’s freedom, but nothing can be truly determined until Marvel reveals more information or the movie comes out.

Despite the theories and questions following the release of the trailer, ecstatic fans and intrigued viewers expect their answers to be questioned after Ragnarok’s release.
