Elijah Strang is sitting alone on third and stares down the catcher. The composite bat echoes through the park as it makes contact with the ball. Strang takes a skip and a hop and jumps on home plate. 6-5 Wildcats.

That’s what the score read Friday night when Cy Woods took down Cy-Fair for a second time to sweep the series matchup against the district rival in ten innings. With another brilliant performance, the Wildcats continue to make their case for number one in the district.

In the top of the first Cy Woods left bases loaded but scored one after Cy-Fair walked one across the plate. But it didn’t take long for Cy-Fair’s Casen White to record an RBI and tie it up. 1-1.

After working a runner to third base, a shot to left center gave the Bobcats their second run to make it 2-1.

Following some acrobatic catches, Cy-Fair managed to put together enough hits to put a run on the board, and then another one, and another one, and by the time the fourth inning was all said and done the scoreboard read 4-1.

Another uneventful half inning for the Wildcats followed but the Bobcats came out swinging and grabbed another run to make it 5-1 at the end of the sixth.

Suddenly, the bats started swinging and the ball started moving. The runs had finally started coming and before long it was tie game at 5. But with a runner on first and second, a ground out finished the top of the inning for the Wildcats.

Kyle Rusinovich came out on the mound with a fire in his eyes and some ice in his veins. He grabbed a couple strikeouts and made quick work of the Bobcat lineup; and continued to do so into the 9th.

Suddenly, with a runner in scoring position and two outs, a quick shot past second base gave Elijah Strang all the opportunity he needed to obtain the final run.

Rusinovich took the mound for one final time. One-two-three strikes and he had secured a strikeout to end the game and complete the comeback for all comebacks.
