Trump’s First Budget Proposal

Will President Trump be able to keep his campaign promises?

President Trump has recently released his first budget proposal.

President Trump has released a partial outline of his 2018 budget plan. He has proposed major cuts to state and other development programs, Health and Human Services, the Environmental Protection Agency, and smaller cuts to programs such as the energy department, treasury, and NASA and several others, cutting 58.6 billion dollars in total. These cuts were proposed alongside increases in Veterans affairs, Homeland Security, and a major 52 billion dollar increase in military spending.
Despite the amount of cuts in this proposal, Trump’s plan is still 900 million dollars over the original budget plan: money that is unaccounted for. Trump promised in his campaign to cut taxes, which means less income for the government. With the amount of money Trump plans on spending for defense and other expenses, it calls to question where this money will come from, or if he will simply continue to add to the national debt like presidents before him.
