When asked “what would be your reason to live forever, if you could?” most people’s answer involves being able to see future technology. Specifically how vehicles will evolve, well it turns out the idea of flying cars is not so far away. Many in the past have predicted by the year 2017 this would be a thing.

Now nearly a dozen companies around the world are competing against each other to possibly create the first flying transportation. This includes companies like European aircraft maker Airbus. Airbus is an aerospace company  known for the development of the A300.

These possible flying cars will involve running on multiple small rotors; each individually battery-powered. A rotor is a hub with a number of radiating airfoils to provide lift to a rotary-wing aircraft. There will be no large rotors or a conventional aircraft piston engine in making of these aircrafts.

This project will include entrepreneurs seeing a future with taxi’s that will transport from one person to ten thousand people over Metropolitan areas; to even transporting people to the tops of office buildings in the city, and even having landing pads for rush hour. Companies like Uber have also taken interest in becoming a part of the on-demand air transportation.

There will be some complications to consider in the making of these aircraft’s. Deciding whether or not these will be safe enough to hold people without accidents. How long will the commutes be able stay above ground and with what batteries.

Advances in computing power could allow the rotors on drones to make these aircraft’s easier to control. Yet developers will need to create a battery that is lightweight and longer lasting.

Then there’s the problem with money, but designers hope that through mass production the transportation can be kept affordable.

NASA technology will possibly play apart in the creation of the flying cars with a new air traffic control system.

Companies are currently trying to scale up drones to carefully transport people from place to place. Some using helicopter technology and one company had already made the technology of having a small plane fold into the legal street car size. Each company will have their own method of design and planning for this project.

Only time will tell of which company will come close to changing the history of vehicles and aviation.
