This afternoon, a guest will take the stage at Texas A&M University to speak to the public. His presence, however, has not been kindly received. White nationalist Richard Spencer was invited to speak at the University, the event has left people criticizing both A&M and Spencer.
People from around the state of Texas have gathered at the institution to peacefully protest his presence and views while he speaks, and others will even go to his presentation to vocally question his views.
Although the protest appears to be peaceful, campus police will be at the event to make sure that none of the protesters turns violent.
Richard Spencer is a self proclaimed supporter of Donald Trump and is a part of an alt right movement that openly supports white supremacy.
The appearance of Spencer was seemingly against the wishes of A&M officials, as he was instead invited by former Aggie student Preston Wiginton.
Spencer’s views focus on keeping the white race prominent and proud. He fears that one day the minorities will become the main race, and that the whites will lose their rights and become looked down upon by others. He predicts that by 2050, whites will become the lesser race.
Spencer’s last notable speaking was at an alt-right conference celebrating Trump’s victory in Washington D.C. on November the 19th. The conference is infamous for the chanting and cheers of “Hail Trump!” and the Nazi salutes that followed.
Despite the upset over his appearance and the petition that gathered about 10,000 signatures, Spencer will continue to speak December 6th at 7:00 pm.
At 6:00pm there will be an “Aggies United” event, where protesters will gather in mass an hour before Spencer speaks. Police will be at both the gathering and the speaking to keep the protesters at ease.
