The Election Wrap Up
the final tallies for the 2016 election
November 9, 2016
Even the day after the election results, Donald Trump’s victory is hardly news. A majority of citizens were up till 4 o’clock in the morning waiting for the results. Donald Trump is the first presidential candidate to hold no military or government position before holding the presidential office. This lends to the unorthodox nature of this election.
Early this morning, only hours after the results were posted, Hillary Clinton released her concession speech stating that the loss was “painful and that it will be for a long time.”
“We have seen that our nation is more deeply divided than we thought,” Clinton said with a tear in her eye. “But I still believe in America and I always will.”
President Barack Obama also made his remarks on the results of the election this morning.
“We are now all rooting for his success in uniting and leading the country,” Obama said.
By actual demographic standards, Donald Trump won the election most handily with the white vote. White non-hispanic votes went in favor of Trump 58% to 37%.
Women were in favor of Clinton by an admittedly smaller margin than expected of 54% to Trump’s 42%.
By a margin of 53% to 41%, Men favored Trump to Clinton, respectively.
This was undoubtedly an unpredictable race, but in the end, The electoral vote favored Trump to Clinton 279 to 228.
