Mind Over Material
How material items are seen today
In today’s society, people often associate material items with eminence. The type of shoes someone wears or the type of car they drive can reflect how they are looked upon by others.
We see a lot of this in media. For example, the Kardashians and Jenners. They became well known mainly because of their money and even today none of them can act or sing. People see them on Instagram and praise them, but not for helping create a change in the world that a lot of people who do not have much often try to do when they give a homeless person 5 dollars when they can barely pay their own bills. No, a lot of the time people look up to the Jenners or the Kardashians when they post pictures of their new 90 thousand dollar Range Rovers.
Even in school scenarios, when kids ca not afford the brands that are trending like Adidas or Nike, they feel bad about themselves. Some are even looked down upon because they do not have much. Who knows, they could have the best personality, but everyone want’s to get in with the rich kids.
It is not good to live in a world where money is the main importance. Everyone is so busy trying to get the right shoes, wear the right brand of jeans, wear certain jewelry. Sometimes people lose who they really are when they’re trying so hard to fit into crowds that don’t deserve them. It’s essential to be true to oneself, wear the things one likes, and be proud.
Media and society these days focus a lot on material items. I am sick of people feeling out of place just because they don’t like or can’t afford something. It is baffling that some people even judge others based on what they own. People should really focus more on each others personalities because in the end that’s all that really matter.
