Tailgating with the Texans

BennettR, Staff Reporter

Because the Texans game was less than amazing, why don’t I take this time to give you an inside scoop on Texan tailgating. Texans may not have racked up many points in the actual football game, but the fans came out in force like always. All throughout the parking lots fans were out playing games, making food, and getting the energy up for the coming game. For those who take tailgating to the next level, it involves a lot more preparation. For instance, the cookers start seasoning and preparing the meats in the nights before. For those like me, who help set up, we get out to the game as early as 8:00 (leaving houses at 6:45) and set up for an hour and a half. By 9:30, the cooking should be under way. One of the best things we make are the cardiac potatoes. Potatoes, sour cream, bacon, butter and much more all stuffed into a cooler and mashed to perfection with a metal boat oar. From then fans who we have never even met come from all over to try our food. We have gone from just a couple friends cooking for ten to a serious system of cookers with two trailers and enough food to feed an army. After the game we go back to the parking lot and take an hour at most to tear everything down. We then head home and start thinking about all of the things we have to do for next week. If you are ever at the Texans game and you’re looking for a fun place to hang out, head to the orange lot and visit the Battle Red Tailgaters.
