When you have a connection with someone you’ve never met in another state, it’s hard.  But when you have one in another country, it’s even worse. Thanks to websites like Twitter and Tumblr, making international friends is not very difficult. Whether romantic or platonic, the internet makes long distance relationships both simultaneously easier and harder.

The internet is really a beautiful thing. Learning things about a different part of the world is a much better experience when you can actually talk to a person from it. While it all seems amazing, sometimes that’s not always the case. They could just stop talking to you, and you’d never know what happened to them. They could be lying about who they are, which is not only disappointing, but very dangerous. But the worse thing is when you have such a strong connection with them and all you want to do is see them in person, and Skype just isn’t enough. Whether its because the lack of money or the locations, meeting them isn’t always possible.

Meeting may be hard, but there are other ways to interact, like websites where you can watch movies together and sending care packages to each other. Although a face to face talk with these international friends can be difficult, staying in touch with a person you care about is worth the crappy Skype connection.
