The GPA system is quite unfair and rigged. It’s unreasonable that K level and college level classes count the same at the end of the day. Not to say that K classes aren’t hard, but Dual Credit and AP classes are significantly harder and have more upper level content than K classes which in turn should let them be worth more GPA points. Though colleges love to see that applicants have many DC and AP classes on their transcripts, for colleges that have auto-admittance for students in a certain top percentage in their class, they’ll take those kids who might have only taken K classes throughout high school. Many AP and DC students feel that auto-admittance should be more strict when it comes to GPA because they think that they should be admitted over those with only K classes. It’s not just the college admittance within the GPA game that students are upset with; it’s also scholarships. There’s a lot of money available for students to get based on their GPA and most of the time they need a high GPA to get that money. With the way that GPA is set up, students aren’t able to gain that money due to Bs in college level classes holding them back from it.
