CFISD has honored their teachers for 26 years at their annual “Salute To The Stars Gala”. This year the ceremony was held on March 7 at the Berry Center.
The honorees and guests were greeted by the Cy Park dance team, the Flairs, as well as their drumline while entering the stadium. Select culinary students from each CFISD high school created small dishes of food, as guests walked around the multitude of tables holding each auctioned item.
Each elementary, middle and high school had one teacher honored, making 99 honorees. This year was a significant year for CFISD in many ways. This was the first year since Mark Henry, the previous CFISD superintendent, passed his title to Doug Killian.
Every honoree was awarded a gift through a random draw of names. Some were awarded between two hundred and fifty and one thousand dollar checks. The largest prize of the night was given to Marc Hofrichter, Frazier Elementary School’s teacher of the year, who at the end of the night was given a car through the Cy-fair Credit Union.
The event each year is run by mostly volunteers from the National Charity League. This is a group of young women and mothers attempting to help the world through charity. These women ran the ticket booths as well as led guests to the correct area.
CFISD is known for taking care of the teachers in their school and the community surrounding these schools, and this night is a great example of this. Through the joy on each teacher’s face, it wasn’t hard to tell the event was an astounding success just as it had been for the last 26 years.
The event each year is filled with joy and camaraderie between each teacher no matter the grade level they teach. This event is only able to happen due to those who choose to give up their time and volunteer to give these teachers a special experience along with those who have donated.
