Rant in 212: pumpkin spice and everything nice
More stories from Regan Grant
August 24 is officially the first day of “Basic Girl Autumn”, the season where every girl flocks to their nearest Starbucks to order the pumpkin spice latte. Now I will admit, pumpkin spice is a good flavor; however, the amount of hype surrounding it makes me never want to taste it again. Over the past couple of years, pumpkin spice has completely taken over the coffee industry. Not only has it dominated the coffee industry, but it has also taken over the food industry in general. Every store you go into, you are guaranteed to see at least 20 foods that have a limited edition pumpkin spice flavor. To be frank, I’m sick of it. It’s like when you eat too much of your favorite food and suddenly it doesn’t taste as good as it did before. Pumpkin spice has become a trend that is way overdone to the point that most of us are tired of hearing about it. Is it really that good? The answer is no. In fact, I don’t think anything could be so good that every single candy and coffee brand has to make a version of it. Pumpkin spice has become my personal enemy when autumn rolls around and it’s possibly the most overrated flavor of the century.
