Goodbye coach
January 21, 2021
After coaching for 36 years, Athletic Coordinator Trenton Faith is hanging up his belt and setting out for retirement. Faith has spent his last eight years being the head coach for the football team and being the athletic coordinator for Cy Woods.
“ When I was in college I knew that if I didn’t continue playing, I would coach,” said Faith. “When I graduated I walked into the head coaches office and asked him for a job. He hired me on the spot”.
Cy Woods was the first place where Faith got a head coaching job. Faith was hired after coaching at Cypress Creek High School. Faith spent 10 years as the defensive coordinator for the cougars before taking up the position at Cy Woods.
“Coaching at Cy Woods has helped me grow in my professional career,” said Faith. “It was my first head coaching job. I also am grateful to have coached so many wonderful young men. It was a pleasure working with our administration and coaching staff. Overall a great experience.”
Faith has led the Cy Woods football program to the playoffs two years in a row, the 2019 season and the 2020 season following after that one. In 2019 the football program ended up winning the district title. This was Faith’s first district title as a head coach.
“My biggest achievement at Cy Woods has to be winning the district championship in 2019,” said Faith. “It was a total team effort. Each year is special in its own way.”
Now it is time for Faith to enjoy his time now that he is retired and be able to do things he wasn’t able to do while handling the job of being the head coach and athletic coordinator.
“I want to do things I couldn’t do because it was football season.” said Faith. “I want to go on an elk hunt. Go to college games all over the country. Bow hunt for whitetail deer in October. My wife and I want to travel. I am planning on building a house in Spicewood, Texas in the hill country.”
Cy woods doesn’t know who the next head coach for the football team or who the next athletic coordinator will be. All that is certain is that Cy Woods will miss Faith and are grateful for everything that Faith has done.
“ I will always miss coaching,” said Faith. “I always had a goal that I would retire young enough to physically. You never know what life has in store for you. “
