Tucked away behind Corky’s BBQ, lies the newest addition to the Cypress dessert community. Gooey’s is a unique ice cream sandwich shop that offers build your own dessert sandwiches with homemade cookies and Blue Bell ice cream.

The establishment opened in August of 2019 and has been jam packed ever since. After visiting Gooey’s I can see why it attracts so many people. The atmosphere is lively and eccentric, with the chairs painted bright blue and pink and hit music playing in the background. There is graffiti walls detected in colorful hearts and others painted from top to bottom in bright colors. The loud artwork was painted by Houston artist Black Cassidy.

Although Gooey’s is categorized as an ice cream sandwich shop, they offer much more. They serve freshly baked cookies, brownies, rice crispy treats, donuts, waffles and milkshakes. You can even make an ice cream sandwich with any base and topping you want. They have options for anybody and everybody, offering gluten free and dairy free cookies as well as ice cream. If I know one thing for sure about Gooey’s, it is that no one will go there and leave unsatisfied.

After trying their homemade cookies, I went to heaven and back. They are the perfect balance of soft and chewy. When creamy Blue Bell ice cream is added to the mix, it makes for an exceptional treat. However, I would not recommend trying to eat their ice cream sandwiches with your hands because they live up to their name, and it will definitely be a gooey mess.

While the treats are amazing, unfortunately the service is underwhelming. When I walked in, I wasn’t greeted and I was never asked if I needed help. The employees seemed unsure of themselves and had an unprofessional manner. When I asked about dairy free options, nobody seemed to know any information until they asked the manager. While I understand the establishment is fairly new, employees should still know common information about their menu.

Overall, I have few complaints against Gooey’s. Their prices are moderate compared to other dessert options in the area. The treats are tasty and the atmosphere is welcoming. While their service could be improved, I still left satisfied. I would rate Gooey’s an eight out of ten stars, and recommend everyone in the Cypress area try it if they haven’t already.
